Giant ice cream cones helped Minto earn an award at the recent Economic Developers Council of Ontario.
The idea was called the Cool Cones Crawl.
It was a summer art project that connected to a reunion of former Canada Packers employees and the history of York Ice Cream production in Harriston.
Taylor Keunen is the Marketing & Community Development Coordinator for Minto.
"So we had 10 of these ice cream cones scattered around the downtown," said Keunen. "In an effort to get people to check it out and stop."
Kuenen said it was so successful that they can get some more use out of them.
"We have them in storage but everyone loved them so much that we are going to bring them back out from May to October this year," added Keunen. "And we're going to move them all around so they are in different places so people can see them again. And the committee is going to look into adding some more to the collection."
And there similar plans for a summer attraction in Palmerston.
"They're going to work on this 'Trendy Trains' project which is going to be very similar but of course with these trains that will be decorated," said Keunen.
The award was for placing first in the Collaboration and Partnership category for communities with a population under 50,000.
Three of the displays are shown in the gallery below.
