Central Huron council has agreed to a request from the Huron Stewardship Council.
The council wants to put up four signs in the municipality, asking motorists to be aware of snakes and turtles crossing the road.
Species at Risk Technician Lauren Schmuck says the mortality rate for snakes and turtles crossing roads is about 80 per cent.
Schmuck pointed out the signs would be posted near the Hullett Marsh and Front Road, just east of Clinton.
Schmuck pointed out the situation is critical for turtles because the turtles crossing the roads are females looking for a nesting area, and that means they're potentially carrying hundreds of eggs that are lost.
