The municipality of North Huron has advised Huron County council that it wishes to assume all responsibilities for plumbing and septic inspection.
Reeve Neil Vincent explained that their chief building official has all of the necessary licenses and required training and rather than having to schedule meetings with council officials, they could do the job at the municipal level and save time for residents waiting for inspections.
Huron CAO Brenda Orchard says that could mean some fee increases for the municipalities that remain in the program because the program has to be on a cost-recovery basis.
Orchard adds staff is currently looking at the fee schedule but points out it will likely have to be adjusted upwards to maintain the cost-recovery feature.
Roughly half of Huron County's municipalities are in the county program.
