Hanover Residents To Pay More For Waste Water

Hanover residents will pay more for waste water.

Council's Committee of the Whole has approved a waste water rate increase of 1.2 per cent

Some councillors wanted to see an increase of 2.2 per cent to help the town move towards a sustainable system within ten years.

However, Mayor Sue Paterson broke broke the 3-3 tie vote.

Paterson says a gradual increase will be easier fro everyone to manage.

"I supported the lower increase of 1.2% for waste water rates while the water consumption rate will remain at the 2014 rate," she says. "This increase is needed to ensure a sustainable water and waste water system. Major upgrades are scheduled to occur in the mid 2020's."
