Steven Dubois strikes gold in 500m at Olympics

Canada’s Steven Dubois has captured gold in the men’s 500-metre short-track speed skating event at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.

The 28-year-old delivered Canada’s first short-track gold of the Games on Wednesday, February 18, marking the country’s fourth gold medal overall and extending its medal streak to four straight days. Canada now has 14 medals in total, including five in short track.

Dubois had previously won silver in the mixed relay but struggled in his other individual events earlier in the Games.

Teammate William Dandjinou finished fifth, while Melle van ’t Wout of the Netherlands took silver and his brother Jens claimed bronze.

Dubois also won three medals at the 2022 Olympics, including bronze in the 500 metres.
