A breakout star for the Owen Sound Attack will have a chance to represent Canada this spring.
Pierce Mbuyi was one of the first 18 players selected to attend Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team pre-tournament camp. The camp in Oakville runs from Saturday, April 12, to Tuesday, April 15, and acts as an audition for the IIHF U18 Men's World Championship in Texas.
Mbuyi finished his first OHL season with 29 goals and 52 points. He previously played for Team Canada (Red) at the U17 World Challenge in Sarnia.
A total of three goaltenders, six defencemen and nine forwards from the CHL were selected by the team's General Manager Scott Walker.
"We are excited to unveil the 18 players who will attend camp in Oakville ahead of U18 Men’s Worlds, as we believe this is a talented group that brings important international experience and success on the international stage," said Walker in a news release. "We believe we have a great staff in place to help our players be successful, and while we continue to follow the Canadian Hockey League playoffs, we are excited to begin our journey to defend gold in Texas later this month."
More names will be added as teams are eliminated from the second round of the CHL playoffs.
The final roster will be announced before the start of the tournament on Wednesday, April 23.
