Owen Sound goalie goes in second round of NHL Draft

The Owen Sound Attack had a few players selected in the NHL Draft in Las Vegas on Saturday, headlined by the first CHL goalie taken in the 2024 draft class.

Carter George was taken 57th overall, landing with his favourite team, the Los Angeles Kings.

The 18-year-old played in 56 regular season games with the Attack last season, finishing with a 23-21-6 record, a save percentage of .907 and four shutouts.

He also backstopped Canada to gold at the U18 Men's World Championship this spring.

George was the third goalie taken in the draft, and the first from a Canadian junior team.

In the final round of the draft, the Attack's Sam McCue heard his name called by the Toronto Maple Leafs at 216th.

The left winger potted 12 goals and 21 points for Owen Sound in 34 games, after being acquired in a trade with the Peterborough Petes on January 2.

Prospect Austin Baker also went 203rd overall to the Detroit Red Wings.

Baker was drafted by Owen Sound in 2022, and has spent the last two years with USA Hockey's National Team Development Program. He has commit to playing with Michigan State this fall.
