Cyclones a storm on the power play

The Listowel Cyclones scored three times on the power play in a first period barrage and went on to beat Caledon 6-1 on GOJHL action on Sunday.

It was the Cyclones' home opener and the team was able to put things together quickly to showcase what they have to offer fans this season.

Travis Verbeek opened the scoring at 7:17 of the first with some hard work down low in the offensive zone. He created a turn over in the corner then planted himself in front of the next and buried a rebound for his first of the season.

Then the Listowel fury came on the power play as the Cyclones scored three consecutive goals with the man advantage. Cam Knight at 10:23, Chet Hudson at 11:55 and Tate Brenner at 16:55. All three were each players' first goals of the season.

After no scoring in the second period, Listowel outscored Caledon 2-1 in the third courtesy of Jake McDonald and Jaden Goldie.

Carter McDougall got the win in net stopping 25 shots.

Both Chet Hudson and Cam Knight had three points in the game as 12 different players picked up at least one point.

Listowel will line up for three games this week starting with a game in Ayr Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. The Cyclones then host Cambridge Friday at 7:30 p.m. and play in Brantford on Sunday at 8:30 p.m.

In other GOJHL action on Sunday, Stratford doubled Brantford 4-2, Elmira edged Ayr 3-2, Cambridge beat Kitchener-Waterloo 3-2 and St. Marys got by Chatham 3-1.
