The Mitchell Hawks got a couple of goals from Ethan Hill including a short handed marker in the second period in a 5-1 win over Walkerton.
The win puts Mitchell a point ahead of Kincardine for third in the Pollock Division standings.
Both teams have played 32 games.
Mitchell is 17-10-1-4 for 39 points and Kincardine is 18-12-0-2 for 38 points.
The Mitchell Hawks will be tested over the last five weekends of the regular season starting with a key game in Kincardine on Thursday. It will be the last time this season they face-off against each other before the playoffs.
Mitchell will also play Walkerton twice, Mount Forest three times and Wingham three times. So Mitchell will play the top two teams six times over their last ten games. As part of those 10 games Mitchell also has to play a make up game in Hanover after the December 15 game was postponed due to ice conditions.
Kincardine's schedule is a little more spread out with three games each against Goderich and Mount Forest as well as singles against Walkerton, Hanover and Wingham.
Mount Forest still leads the division with 49 points with Wingham chasing with 46.
Mitchell is in third followed by Kincardine.
Hanover has 33 points, just six behind Mitchell.
Goderich and Walkerton round out the division.
