New Ironman in Wingham, Kincardine continues to climb

Justin Donnelly made an impression in his first home game with the  Wingham Ironmen, scoring twice and earning first star honours in a 5-2 win over Mount Forest.

The Patriots opened the scoring in the game when Troy Weber scored at 3:29 of the first period. Brady Becker would tie it three minutes later.

In the second period, Wingham took control scoring three times. Justin Donnelly scored the first goal of the period and also scored with under a minute to play. Logan Tolton scored in what was the eventual winning goal. Blair Butchart scored the Patriots' only goal in the period and that was on the power play.

Wingham's fifth goal of the game was into an empty net as Tolton picked up his second goal of the game with 59 seconds left in regulation.

The win pulls Wingham to within three points of first place Mount Forest but the Patriots have two games in hand. Mount Forest hosts Hanover tonight at 8 p.m. The Barons are coming off a 4-2 loss to Goderich.

Wingham doesn't play for the rest of the weekend.

In Walkerton Friday, the Kincardine Bulldogs won their fifth in six games icing the Hawks 5-2. That moves Kincardine to within two points of Mitchell for third in the Pollock Division. Those two teams clash in Mitchell Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
