The new Owen Sound Rugby Club was honoured recently by Rugby Ontario.
The new club was awarded the Ontario Minor Rugby Club of the Year for their U7, U9, and U11 programs. President Darcy Werger says it was a nice surprise and great thrill to win the award, but they had some help in getting themselves started.
"It's the first year as a stand-alone club. We were a satellite group with the Bruce County Rugby Club for the two years prior, so we really have to give them some thanks for getting us set up and running."
The Owen Sound Rugby Club officially received their award on Saturday, November 23rd at Rugby Ontario’s Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet. Werger says they learned a lot about running their own club during their time with the Bruce County club.
"We learned quite a bit about what we didn't know about running a club, but we had a lot of good people working hard, so it's been a very nice surprise at the end of our season to get this award."
Owen Sound Rugby Club will be accepting registrations for next season in the new year, and you can apply online on their Facebook page or the website owensoundrugby.com.
