The Mitchell Hawks scored three times in a three minute span in the first period and never gave up the lead in an 8-2 win over the Goderich Flyers in a PJHL game in Blyth Sunday.
Spencer Dowd opened the scoring at the 6:01 mark of the first period, Zack Dow scored at 8:08 then Dowd scored his second of the game at 9:01.
Goderich forward Mitch Fisher got the Flyers on the board at 7:52 of the second period on the power play and Colton Quipp would score Goderich's only other goal of the game later in the period. But Mitchell scored three goals of their own in the second period and added two power play goals in the third period to finish off the game.
Goderich goalie Spencer Lazarevich faced 41 shots while Mitchell goalie Ryan Govier faced 30 shots.
The win keeps the Mitchell Hawks just ahead of Kincardine and Hanover in the standings, and keeps the squad within striking distance of second place Mount Forest.
Mitchell's next game is Friday in Walkerton at 8:20 p.m. while Goderich will make the trip to Hanover that night for an 8 p.m. game.
