Bulldogs trainer recognized by Ontario Hockey Association

Trainers help keep junior hockey clubs organized and this year Kirk Gibbons of the Kincardine Bulldogs has been named the OHA's Trainer of the Year.

Gibbons, who hails from Tobermory, joined the Bulldogs four seasons ago.

"Pretty humbling. I certainly enjoyed the activity and what I do there," said Gibbons. "To be recognized like this is pretty cool."

He's also helped with team building exercises and nutrition.

"I seem to have really lucked out since I started being a trainer," added Gibbons. "I've had great players and great teams to be involved in."

In a release from the Kincardine Bulldogs, team officials say Gibbons never missed a game and traveled 160 km one way upwards of two or three times a week.

“What can you say about Gibby? The guy is phenomenal. He is the consummate team guy and every player loves the man,” said Mike Hackett, Bulldogs Assistant General Manager. “He sure makes game day exciting and interesting. Always cheery and joking with the players, he makes it fun. He’s a great guy.”

The 2018-19 season was Gibbons’ last with the Bulldogs as his son Hunter finished his overage year with the team.
