Six different Listowel Cyclones scored as the team beat Kitchener 6-1 to take a 1-0 lead in the GOJHL Midwest Semi-Final.
Some of the goals came from the usual sources but other players were able to put points on the board.
Chayse Herrfort scored the first of Listowel's three power play goals at the 8:45 mark of the first.
Then Steven Grant built on Listowel's lead late in the period. Kitchener was able to respond just seconds later when a Jeb Paulsen point shot fluttered over the shoulder of goalie Evan Morrison. But he would shut the door from there making 31 saves in the game.
Both teams played physical but it was costly in the second period for thr visiting team. Kitchener took three straight penalties and Listowel scored two more on the power play. Holdyn Lansink scored one and Darcy Winkler pushed a rebound in.
Sandwiched between those two goals, a Hayden Coulter breakaway. He blocked a pass at the Kitchener blueline along the boards and walked in, lifting the puck over Lucas Patton.
Trent Verbeek would complete the scoring early in the third. That ended Patton's night as Christian Linton finished the game in the Kitchener net.Game 2 is at the Aud in Kitchener Sunday at 5:30 p.m. and can be heard on Cherrey Buslines OHA Hockey on CKNX.
In Stratford, Waterloo edged Stratford 2-1. Winston Cestnick and Alex Lycett scored for the Siskins. Corson Searles scored for Stratford. Game 2 of that series is in Waterloo on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
