The Listowel Cyclones needed some time but they got things together to win Game 1 of their GOJHL conference quarter-final, 6-1 over Brampton.
Chayse Herrfort had the hat trick for Listowel and Jonah White chipped in a pair as part of the eventual offensive surge.
White actually opened the scoring midway through the first period on the power play but Brampton didn't back down. The Bombers scored late in the period on a power play of their own on a wicked one-time shot from defenceman Luka Profaca.
In the second period, Chayse Herrfort would score his first of three goals on the night. This one with just 45 seconds left in the period.
Then in the third it was all Listowel. Jonah White scored at 1:31 into the third, and that was followed by two Chayse Herrfort power play goals later in the period. Listowel's power surge was capped off by a Rylan Bowers tip in late in the third.
Evan Morrison picked up the win in net for the Cyclones.
Game 2 is in Brampton Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. with Game 3 scheduled for Tuesday, March 5 in Listowel at 7:30 p.m.
In the other Friday night quarter-final game, Stratford beat Brantford 4-1 to open that series. Game 2 is Saturday night in Brantford at 7:30 p.m.
And two other series continue with Elmira in Kitchener at 4:30 p.m. Saturday with the series tied at one. Both games were won by the visiting team.
And Waterloo is in Cambridge at 7 p.m. for Game 2 of that series with the Siskins up 1-0 in the Best of 7.
