The Listowel Cyclones did not need a lot of time to find the OT winner in Game 2 of the Sutherland Cup semi-final against London.
Just 14 sec in, Chayse Herrfort tipped in a shot over the shoulder of London goalie David Ovsjannikov.
It was Herrfort's second goal of the game and one that lifted the Cylcones to a 5-4 OT win and it tied the series at one.
Both teams were fast and so were some of the goals.
After Mitch Deelstra opened the scoring in at 8:28 of the first, the teams exchanged four goals in under two minutes.
London's Brandon Glover scored at 14:55. Chayse Herrfort responded at the 15:59 mark. London pushed back and Colin Wilson scored unassisted at 16:15. Then off the ensuing face-off, Holdyn Lanksink pushed through and beat Ovsjannikov at 16:22.
Listowel would leave the ice after the first period with a 3-2 lead.
Things settled down in the second period with just two goals, one for each team. Jakob Lee's goal on the power play at 7:33 put Listowel ahead 4-3.
In the third, Max Vinogradov carried the puck through centre ice, got an angle on the left wing and drove to the net with puck and slid it through Listowel goalie Max Wright to tie the game.
In overtime, Listowel won the face-off and Cyclones' defenceman Max Coyle got the puck up to forward Ben VanOoteghem. He skated into the offensive zone on the right wing then cut to the middle of the ice and fired a low, hard shot toward the net. And that's where Herrfort was able to sneak in to get a stick on the puck deflecting it high over the shoulder of London's net minder.
Listowel goal Max Wright made 31 saves and London's David Ovsjannikov faced 36 shots.
With the series tied at one, Game 3 is Saturday night in London at 7:30 p.m. The game is on Cherrey Buslines OHA Hockey on CKNX.
