The Listowel Cyclones had to stitch together a patch work of lines in Game 5 of the GOJHL Midwest Conference Semi-Final and came out with a 5-2 win over Waterloo.
Listowel lost forward Mitch Deelstra to an illness while Jakob Lee and Holden Lansink were scratched, as expected, due to injury. Defenceman Jagger O'Toole was also out.
But the Listowel offence showed the depth that has been talked about all season.
Keaton Willis scored the opening goal in the first period on the power play, sneaking in on the left side and firing it into an open net. Later in the period Ben VanOoteghem scored on a rush down the right wing, cutting past the defense and stuffing it in short side.
In the second period, Cullen Mercer scored on a feed from Brady Anderson on a two on none rush after Anderson stole the puck from a falling Waterloo player at the Listowel blue line. Anderson would end up with four assists in the game.
Mercer would also score on an empty net in the third period as did Caleb Warren.
Listowel goalie Max Wright made 19 saves while Waterloo goalie Brett Miller made 23 saves.
Sam Spaedt scored both Waterloo goals.
With a 3-2 series lead, Listowel heads to Waterloo on Sunday for Game 6 which is at 1:30 p.m. CKNX will have the game on Cherrey Buslines OHA Hockey.
