Team O'Reilly may have slipped by Team Deveraux 9-7 in the fourth annual Hometown Heroes hockey game in Goderich but the real winner was local health care.
$55,000 was raised at the event Thursday night.
The money will be split between the Alexander Marine and General Hospital, YMCA Strong Kids and Gateway Rural Health.
Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb says it takes months to plan the event.
"Believe it or not it takes six to seven months and the last month there's people that all they are doing is working on the details," said Lobb. "It's great when you see a game like this and the [fundraising] is up to $55,000 in a town of 8,500 people."
Lobb says it helps to have people come back and to pitch in with their expertise.
"We have a team of at least 50 volunteers that have stuck with us year after year after year," said Lobb. "So it's really well done. The sponsors here in town and surrounding areas have really stepped up to the plate."
The $55,000 is the single highest amount raised in one year in the four years of the event.
