In the GOJHL, the Listowel Cyclones have tied the Cherrey Cup at two thanks to a 3-2 overtime win in Elmira.
Listowel was able to establish the lead twice in the game but Elmira found a way to battle back.
Then after not scoring on a power play of their own in overtime, Cyclone's forward Holdyn Lansink chipped in a rebound with just over four minutes left in OT.
"We had that power play there so we were hopefully to score that," says Lansink. "But we said in the room if we don't score, let's keep putting pucks deep, keep working hard and good things will happen."
Before that goal, Listowel goalie Brock Baier had to be looked at by the trainer after an Ethan Skinner rush ended up on top of Baier. The Listowel goalie made the save after Skinner split the defenders but he went skidding through the crease making contact with the goaltender.
Lansink says Baier was able to refocus.
"That's what it takes," says Lansink. "To take a hit like that and to keep battling, he faced more shots even after that. He gave us a chance to win tonight, he was awesome."
Just before Lansink scored the winner, Baier had to make a high blocker save and the puck trickled over his shoulder and it landed behind him. Brady Anderson flew in and cleared the puck from the crease.
In all Baier made 30 saves. Jonathon Reinhart made 37.
Listowel coach Jason Brooks says a big key for him was that the team kept its emotions in check.
"I'm proud of our guys," says Brooks. "It was an up and down game. You get up 1-0 and they battle back. You get up 2-1 and they battle back. You have the power play opportunity to start the overtime and you hit a goal post."
Jamie Huber and Cullen Mercer also scored for Listowel. Ethan Skinner and Andrew McIntyre scored for Elmira.
Game 5 is in Listowel Friday night at 7:30pm and advance tickets will be sold at Listowel Memorial Arena Thursday night after 6:30pm.
