Storm Surge In Listowel, Cyclones Win Game 3

The Listowel Cyclones were able to find ways to finish and beat Elmira 4-2 in Game 3 of the GOJHL Midwest Conference Cherrey Cup Final.

The first period ended in a 1-1 draw as Jakob Lee opened the scoring at 5:34 of the period followed by an Elmira tip in at 7:38 off the stick of Klayton Hoelscher.

Listowel took the lead in the second period and never relinquished it. Holdyn Lansink was able to steal a puck just inside the Elmira blue line and connected with Chayse Herrfort who fired a shot by Johnathon Reinhart blocker side.

Cullen Mercer expanded the lead, with what would be the eventual winner, when he got in close to the net and tipped a Jamie Huber pass over the shoulder of Reinhart at 12:35.

The Sugar Kings responded with a tip in of their own when a shot by Dawson Shackelton appeared to ricochet off a Listowel player high in front of the net and went in.

With it 3-2, Mercer scored his second goal in the third period when he won a face-off in the Elmira zone and walked to the high slot and fired it by Reinhart. The Elmira net minder made 34 saves in the game.

For Listowel, Brock Baier stopped 33 shots shutting the door on many quality chances at close range.

Game 4 is in Elmira Wednesday night at 7:30pm with Elmira up in the series 2-1.
