Patriots Stay Alive In PJHL Playoffs

A four goal night by Ryley Cribbin extends Mount Forest's playoff life as the Patriots beat Mitchell 5-3.

Cribbin opened the scoring at 4:17 of the first period when he scooped up a pass from Ryan Maksymyk and raced off on a break away and tucked the puck past Graeme Lauersen. Cribbin's second goal came just over five minutes later on the power play. Cribbin came in on the right wing, flipped the puck over the defender's stick and then got a low shot away that beat the goaltender to make it 2-0.

The power play was a five minute major for cross checking called on Mitchell forward Garrett James, who also received a game misconduct was done for the rest of the game.

The Patriots ended up on the power five consecutive times and overall was 1 for 6 with the man advantage through the game.

In the second, Patriots' forward Jack Vautour scored to make it 3-0 just over a minute into the period. That triggered a goaltender change for Mitchell as Wyatt Nicholson replaced Lauresen.

Then Mitchell found a way past Matthew Oullette. Derek Elliott scored midway through the period and Nick Jung added one on the power play to cut the lead down to one.

In the third period, Cribbin picked up the hat trick with a tip in by Nicholson to make it 4-2.

But Mitchell responded 39 seconds later when Tyler Pauli took a shot from the face off dot on a sharp angle  and beat Oullette glove high.

As the time ticked away, Mitchell pressured but Riley Cribbin sealed the Patriots' win with an empty net goal and the final was 5-3 as Cribbin finished the night with four goals.

Shots were 34-32 in favour of Mitchell.

Game 5 is Saturday night in Mitchell at 7:00pm with the Hawks up 3-1 in the series.
