The Mount Forest Patriots survived a penalty filled first period and a 1-0 deficit to clinch the first round playoff against the Wingham Ironmen.
Mount Forest would eventually win the game 5-2 to sweep the best of 7 series.
The Patriots combined for 40 mins worth of penalties in the first period, including a minor for checking from behind, and misconducts for abuse of officials and boarding. The Ironmen suffered their own setbacks, combining for 8 mins worth of penalties, but scored the only goal of the period. Bailey Boyes scored at the 11:12 mark from Carter Collinson.
Mount Forest came alive in the second period scoring three times before the midway point of the period including twice on the power play. Michael Stefanelli, Brendon Aitken and Spencer Holt all scored. Wingham would get one back when Shane Vollmer scored at the 10:55 mark. But Aitken's second goal of the game gave the Patriots a three goal lead just before the end of the second period.
In the third period, Mount Forest's Ryan Maksymyk scored the only goal and it came shorthanded.
With the win, the Patriots will wait to see how the other quarter-final series end.

The Mitchell Hawks have taken a 2-1 series lead in the quarter-final against Goderich with a 6-2 win.
The Flyers were able to keep pace in the first period with a power play goal but gave up two goals on the power play as the period ended 2-2.
Mitchell took the lead in the second period, scoring twice including a third power play goal.
In the third, the Hawks scored two more in the third to seal the game.
Mitchell out shot Goderich 46-21.
Game 4 is in Goderich Saturday night at 7:30pm.

The Kincardine Bulldogs were able to tie up their series with Hanover with a 5-2 win.
Only one goal was scored in the first, and one goal in the second, both Kincardine goals. The rest of the scoring came in the third period.
But it was all Bulldogs as Kincardine scored twice early in the third period to take a 4-0 lead. Hanover scored their first goal at 8:31 of the third on the power play. The teams exchanged goals before the end of the game.
The series is now tied at two and neither team has been able to win at home.
Game 5 is in Kincardine Saturday at 7:30pm.
