The Cherrey Cup Final between Stratford and Waterloo is set.
The series will start in Stratford Friday night at 7:30pm.
While Stratford spent most of the regular season in the top two of the league, Waterloo has been a work in progress.
Waterloo finished the regular season with a 6-4 stretch in the last 10 games. But things started to click in the playoffs sweeping Listowel in the first round and eliminating the top seeded Kitchener Dutchmen in five games.
Coming into the series, both teams have put up decent special teams numbers, Stratford a little better on the power play and the Siskins a little better on the penalty kill.
Both goaltenders have been stellar. Mitchell Datz has a .938 save percentage, the second best amongst all GOJHL goalies in the playoffs. Stratford's Alexander Brooks-Potter is sporting a 2.07 GAA and a .927 save percentage.
The biggest discrepancy comes in the goals for category. Stratford is averaging 6.3 goals per game for, granted the team scored 37 goals against Brampton in a four game sweep in the first round. Waterloo is averaging 3.3 goals per game for.
In the regular season Stratford won four of the six meetings. But two of those wins were by just a goal. The widest margin was a 5-1 win in their last meeting of the season back on February 5.
The Cullitons last won the Cherrey Cup in the 2003-04 season and went on to win the Sutherland Cup. The last Cherrey Cup win for Waterloo came in the 2013-14 season as the Siskins defeated Stratford in six games.
