The Listowel Cyclones used an aggressive attack but came up short in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Waterloo Siskins in Game 3 of the GOJHL quarter-finals.
Waterloo now has a 3-0 lead in the best of 7 series.
The Cyclones made a big push in the first ten minutes of the first period but the Siskins held off the Listowel advance. Listowel went 0-2 on the power play early, generating a number of chances. After the rush, Waterloo went on a power play of their own and scored when defenceman Owen Kipke fired a high shot from the point that found the back of the Listowel net. Waterloo would escape the period with a 1-0 lead.
In the second, the Siskins took a 2-0 lead 1:25 into the period. Then Listowel's offense took over, scoring three consecutive goals, two on the power play, to take the lead. Kade Landry, Corey Flemington and Brady Anderson scoring the goals. By the end of the period, Listowel had out shot Waterloo 25-11.
In the third period, Listowel again generated chances but the only goal came off the stick of Waterloo defenceman Nick King, who scored on the power play.
That set up overtime. And in the extra period, Waterloo turned the tables, out shooting Listowel 5-0 and on that fifth shot, ended the game. Nate Schnarr was the first to a rebound and slid the puck along the ice for the winner.
Listowel goalie Tyler Fassl made 28 saves on 32 shots while Siskins' goalie Mitchell Datz stopped 44 of 47.
Now with a 3-0 lead, Waterloo gets ready to host Game 4 Wednesday at 7:30pm.
