Cyclones Ready To Roll In GOJHL Playoffs

The Listowel Cyclones open their playoff run on home ice tonight against the Waterloo Siskins.

Listowel finished the regular season at 33-17 with 66 points. The team earning the most wins in franchise history this season eclipsing the 31 wins the team had in 2010-2011.

That team was comprised of goal scorers Bobby Cook, Brett Catto and Caleb Cameron. Mac Nichol anchored the defense. And goalie Anthony Peters was a late season pick-up to help with the playoff surge.

The team made it to the Cherrey Cup final that year under coach Dave Williams. Jeff Bloemberg, Matt Desmeules and Steve Leith were the assistants. Mike Brooks, the younger brother of current coach Jason Brooks, was the manager.

The 2010-2011 squad won the opening series in 7 games against Stratford, then iced Guelph in 6 games. In the final, Listowel faced Elmira and the Sugar Kings won that series in 6 games.

Now the 2015-2016 squad is ready for a playoff run with new leaders such as Jamie Huber, Ben Shelley and goalie Tyler Fassl.

The team did not rest at the end of the season going 7-3 to end the regular schedule.

Listowel opens up it's quarter-final series at home against Waterloo tonight in a start of an aggressive playoff schedule as the teams will play the first four games in six days.
