Mitchell And Wingham First Round

The Western Jr. C playoffs begin this weekend.

Even though there are still five regular season games left, the standings are set in the league.

Walkerton finishes first followed by Kincardine and Mount Forest. Mitchell and Wingham are in the middle at four and five. Hanover and Goderich round out the league. Because Walkerton finished first, the team has the option of taking a bye. If that is made official than that would set up a first round series against Kincardine and Goderich. Mount Forest and Hanover would make another series.

But only one quarter-final series has been scheduled at this point and that is the number four seed, Mitchell, versus Wingham.

After starting the season with eight losses in nine games, Mitchell wraps up their regular schedule against Goderich and heads into the game with a 17-18 record. And five of those 18 losses were in overtime. Wingham finishes their regular season in Walkerton Friday night and heads into the game with a 15-19-1 record.

In head to head, Mitchell won four of the six meetings this season including a 2-1 double overtime game last Saturday.
