Listowel Cyclones GM Wayne Long says he's happy with the direction the team is headed.
During what's been an up and down year, the Cyclones sit at 16-12-0-0 after a successful weekend that saw them beat the Guelph Hurricanes 5-2 at home and then they blew the doors off the Cambridge Winterhawks 6-0 the following game.
Long spoke ahead of their game against the power house Kitchener Dutchman, saying "we need to not take penalties and skate with them. When we skate with Kitchener, we do well. They're known for their power-play and scoring short handed goals. We really need to watch our special teams."
Long also said that he believes last weekend's good run can carry them forward through the Christmas breaks, saying "we are really starting to gel and play well together, we have good top end scoring. If we can add some more depth scoring to guys like Jamie (Huber), we can really go forward and keep gaining ground."
The team also will be honouring forward Ben Shelley this week, who will set a new franchise record for games played in Cyclones history. Tonight's game will be number 221 for Shelley and will tie the team record, as the Cyclones look to win a third game in a row against the Dutchman at the Kitchener Memorial Arena.
Shelley can break the record on Friday which is currently held by Perry Ohm when he played for Listowel from 1989 to 1995.
