Ironmen Ground Flyers - Junior Hockey Wrap

Western Jr. C Wingham 7 Goderich 2

The Wingham Ironmen took advantage of a Goderich habit of allowing the first goal of the game when Logan Burgess snapped a shot past Flyers' goalie Nathan Watson just 1:33 into the first period.

That gave Wingham the lead and the team never gave it up. Forward Ryan McNeil scored a shorthanded goal midway through the first to make it 2-0 after one period.

In the second, Flyers goalie Nathan Watson gave his team every chance to stay with Wingham, stopping 14 shots. But Goderich could only manage one goal and were down 3-1 after the second period. In the third, the flood gates opened as Wingham scored four more times.

The win pulls Wingham to within four points of second place Kincardine but have a tough test ahead playing in Walkerton tonight at 7:20pm.

Goderich plays at home against Mount Forest tonight at 7:30pm.

Mitchell 6 Hanover 3

The Mitchell Hawks continue to improve and used a third period push to win on the road.

With the game tied at two after two periods, the Hawks scored twice in a two minute span in the third. Both goals were scored by Nathan Templeman which gave him a hat trick on the evening after scoring short handed earlier in the second period.

It was a penalty filled affair as Mitchell went 2-6 on the power play and Hanover 1-5.

The win pulls Mitchell even with Hanover at 7-11 with 14 points, just one point back of Mount Forest.

The Barons are on the road in Kincardine tonight at 7pm.

Mitchell is done for the weekend with just the one game.

The Mitchell Hawks will be in Walkerton next Friday and that game will be featured on Cherrey Buslines OHA Hockey on CKNX.
