WOAA Elora Rocks Call It Quits

One of the perennial powerhouses of the WOAA Senior Hockey League is calling it quits two games into the 2015/16 season.

The Elora Rocks have notified league officials that they are folding for the season after starting out 0-2 on the year, with losses to Shelburne and Durham last weekend.

While no official reason for withdrawing has been made public, the Rocks lost numerous veteran players during the offseason and had made an appeal as late as September 30 on its Facebook page, looking to fill roster spots.

Elora won four league championships between 2005 and 2010 and finished at or near the top of the standings every season since then, including finishing with a 16-8-0 record last season.

Elora had been scheduled to play the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks on Friday evening in Port Elgin. That game has been cancelled and league officials are now working to produce a revised schedule for the seven remaining teams in the WOAA's North Division.
