Shelburne Man Wins Seaforth County Classic

David Markle of Shelburne is the winner of the 2015 Seaforth County Classic.

Markle followed 68 on Thursday with a 61 Friday and a 66 Saturday to finish at 15-under, seven strokes up on the next two golfers.

Markle also won the Classic in 2013 and lost last year by one stroke. Markle says he likes the Seaforth course because it reminds him of his home course in Shelburne.

"I feel like I'm coming home every time I come here." Markle said, It's a small, homemade golf course and it's great. It's a lot of fun coming here."

This year's tournament raised $7,500 for the Canadian Diabetes Association, a charity very close to Markle as he has type one diabetes and is an active spokesperson for the Association.

Markle also hosts his own tournament for the Canadian Diabetes Association.

He says it's great to shoot good scores and win tournaments but really motivates him is what he can do with that platform and for him that means raise awareness and money for Diabetes.

He explains there's no reason to wait until he's on the PGA Tour to do that when he can do it now.
