It was a trip that members of Hanover's Golden Tiger Kickboxing Club will never forget.
Six locals competed along with other members of "Team Canada" against opponents in South Africa in a series of bouts.
Hanover's own Lisa Schnittker says that it was an honour to represent her country overseas.
"(I remember) how proud I was being there and hearing the national anthem and being so full of adrenaline."
Away from the ring, Canadians were blown away by the hospitality of their hosts. They were taken on tours throught the cities and rural areas and also visited Robben Island, the World Heritage Site and former prison.
Schnittker says Canada made life long friends with their South African opponents.
"They treated us like family before and after our fights, hosted us for barbecues and we trained together, it was amazing."
