One again the Owen Sound North Stars will be missing out on the post season in Junior B Lacrosse. Unfortunately this years' attempt was not as close as the season prior.
The North Stars sport a 3-13-1 record with only 3 games remaining on the 20 game league season. With 7 points they are at the bottom of the MidWest division behind Orangeville, Elora and Guelph who have all clinched post season berths.
So far 12 teams have booked a spot in the playoffs out of 16 available places. Of the remaining teams, two already have 16 points while two more have 15 points. Owen Sound would have only 13 if they win their remaining games, meaning they are unable to catch up to the rest of the pack for a spot in the playoffs.
Despite the bad news there are some high points as the season approaches a close. The young North Stars team has been led by 17-year-old Jake McNabb. The second year player has 47 points in 16 games. McNabb has carried the load on a team that despite results is one of the top powerplay units in the league, converting on 31% of their opportunities.
With three games left on the schedule Owen Sound can look to end the season on a high note against Orangeville, Welland and Guelph. The first of those games is Thursday night at the Bayshore against the Northmen.
