Elite Hockey Skills Program Coming to Exeter

Former NHL'er Krys Barch is bringing an elite hockey program to Exeter this summer.

Along with local coach Scott Bogart, AXIS Hockey Systems will bring high level hockey training to the South Huron Rec Centre from August 24th to 28th.

The program will run high intensity stickhandling and offensive maneuvers that Barch hopes can offer a closer resource for local players to work on their skills, rather than driving to London or Kitchener.

"My own kids will by playing in South Huron this season." Barch said. "Right now it is an hour drive for any extra hockey so thought I could teach not just my own kids, but the rest of the area as well."

This year's sessions will be open for players in Novice, Atom and Peewee age groups. Barch says that what he is able to teach will be much different than what players may be used to.

"If you don't know how to do it than you can't teach it, only a few people could offer something like this." He said. "These are high end maneuvers that are broken down into individual steps."

The ex London Knight hopes that his program can help players throughout Midwestern Ontario who are looking to further their development but are up against geographical limitations. Many players drive hours for practises and games all year and Barch wants to bring that experience closer to home.

"I think there is untapped potential in this region." He said. "I started thinking what is missing and I think it is opportunity, they need the quality of experience that players get in the city."

Barch says the word has got out much quicker than he expected and even a few thoughts on possibly moving his program around the region. For now he is looking forward to getting the first camp under his belt and see just what this region has to offer and what he can offer them.
