The game was tightly contested right to the end, and wasn’t near as wide open as the previous 3 games.
In the first period, the game started off sloppy on both sides as Elora looked to gain much needed momentum on home ice. They opened the scoring at the 13:12 mark, and killed off the only penalty of the period. A 1-0 score for the Rocks at the end of one was just what they needed.
The second period saw 5 power plays in total as the game opened up a bit more. Elora managed to hold their 1-0 lead until they were called for tripping at 1:32 left in the period. It took just 1 second and a quick snapshot for the visitors to tie the score heading to the third.
Mapleton-Minto got to work early in the third as the scored at the 18:46 mark. They never looked back as they held the lead from then on, adding a power play goal for good measure at 7:48, in a game where they killed all the penalties assessed against them going 5/5 on the penalty kill. The 81’s won by a final score of 3-1, winning the series 4-0.
They wait to face either the Tillsonburg Thunder or the Tavistock Royals in the final. Tavistock currently leads the series 3-2.
