Locals Bring Home Medals From Canada Winter Games

Sunday marked the end of the Canada Winter Games in Prince George, BC after bringing  2,400 competitors as well as 1,000 coaches and officials together.  When it was all said and done Quebec took the medal count with 141, including 62 gold. Team Ontario finished 2nd with 112 medals and 47 golds.

Among those golds for Ontario was in mens hockey. Owen Sound Attack Assistant coach Drew Bannister guided the team to a gold medal performance. The final ended with a 3-1 victory over Alberta. Huron Perth Lakers coach David Schlitt was an assistant.

Also on the ice, Mildmay native Miranda Lantz skated for the girls in hockey. She had a goal and one assist over six games on the way to the silver.

Mount Forest’s Shae-Lynn Reaman was a part of the silver medal winning ringette team.

Ravi Seth of Fergus takes home a silver medal in men's squash. He won his final match but Team Ontario was edged by Alberta in the gold medal tie.

Adding another silver was Nathan Shuh of Elmira. He won the medal in men's gymnastics.

Also taking part in the games from the area  Corin Metzger of Elmira and St.Marys native Eric Voss on the Wheelchair basketball team. They finished 5th in the competition.
