Hanover Clinch, Mitchell Endures and Mount Forest Outscores in Western Jr. C Playoff Action

All three quarterfinal matchups in the Western Jr. C played on Saturday, with Hanover, Mount Forest and Mitchell all coming away with victories.

The Hanover Barons completed the sweep with a 4-2 win over Goderich on Saturday. Durham’s Justin Graham lead the Barons to their 4-0 series win with a goal and two assists. The expansion Flyers kept the series close, losing 4-3 in Game Two before losing by two goal margins in the next two matchups. The third-ranked Barons now join the Wingham Ironmen (who advanced on a bye) as the first two clubs in the semi-final round.

The Mount Forest Patriots relied on Tyler Hughson’s two goals and two assists in their 7-6 win over Kincardine. Mount Forest, who have evened the series up at 2-2, forced Kincardine’s John Nixon to make 41 saves in the contest. Game 5 between these two clubs will go Sunday night at 7pm in Kincardine.

Mitchell’s Graeme Lauersen made 67 saves as his last-placed Hawks notched a massive win against Walkerton, taking a 4-3 decision in overtime. Mitch Boertien was the hero for Mitchell, scoring with 32 seconds left in the first overtime to give them their first win in the 2-1 series. These two clubs will wrap up the weekend in Mitchell on Sunday at 7:45pm.
