Winterhawks Stun the Wolves

The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks are hoping the new year picks up where 2014 left off.

Joe Kirkland stopped 27 shots for his first career WOAA Senior Hockey League shutout as the Winterhawks defeated the Ripley Wolves 8-0 for their fourth-straight win, capping a run of nine wins in 10 games to finish off the calendar year.

The game featured several fights as the score got out of hand, but Winterhawks head coach Peter Roedger says he's happy with the discipline his team showed in not getting carried away.

"The guys did a great job of holding their composure and the discipline and not letting it get out-of-hand, because we could have turned things around, as well.   But we decided to keep playing and the score is a good result of that," says Roedger.

With the win, Saugeen Shores moves into sole possession of second-place in the WOAA's North Division, and will have an opportunity to move into the top spot when they face the first-place Elora Rocks on Friday.
