Brightshores Health System has released a statement on a recent incident that occurred at the Markdale Hospital.
The statement on Wednesday shared that on November 2, Grey Bruce OPP responded to an incident that involved a patient at the hospital becoming aggressive while in the emergency department.
"We are grateful for the professionalism, judgment and quick actions demonstrated by our team in what was a challenging and unpredictable situation," the released statement from Brightshores said. "The team followed established procedures and worked together to help protect patients, visitors and one another while emergency responders mobilized."
Other patients, visitors and family witnessed the incident, and Brightshores expressed regret for those who had to witness the situation, stating that the safety of staff, patients, volunteers, families and physicians is the top priority.
Any violence or aggressive behaviour towards hospital staff and others is unacceptable, Brightshores added. The organization also noted that support is being provided to staff members, and a comprehensive review of safe rooms across the organization is also underway.
