Perth County has been named Canada’s Safest Public Sector Employer.
The award was given to Perth County at the Canada’s Safest Employer Awards at a ceremony held in Toronto on October 22.
The event "recognizes organizations and individuals that demonstrate exemplary workplace health and safety performance, innovative safety practices and a strong commitment to protecting the well-being of employees, contractors, visitors, and the public," according to a statement on the Perth County website.
Perth County shared in the online statement that the county has a number of initiatives to better protect employees. That includes a proactive mental health program for paramedics, specialized defensive driving training programs, and regular safety briefings and education for employees who work directly with the public. The county also provides ongoing investments in education, risk management and workplace wellness programs.
"This award is a fantastic honour to be bestowed upon Perth County," said Dean Trentowsky, Warden of Perth County. "This accomplishment is a testament to the continuous commitment of Council and Staff to prioritize workplace health and safety as a core component within the public services delivered by all County departments. It is a commitment that all Perth County citizens can be proud of each and every day."
