Hanover Fire Department helped local police locate a suspect that made off with boxes of potato chips Tuesday morning.
According to a release from the Hanover Police Service, around 4 a.m., officers observed two men darked in dress clothes carrying boxes near a distribution facility on 14th Avenue.
Police said when they approached, the two men fled in opposite directions. The area was contained, and police asked for help from Hanover Fire to search for the suspects using their drones with thermal imaging.
Around 5 a.m., one suspect was found hiding in overgrown grass in the area. Drone operators guided officers to the area, where the man was taken into custody surrounded by boxes of potato chips.
Police allege that a search incident to arrest also resulted in the seizure of edged weapons and a set of bolt cutters.
"The HFD Drone Operators were able to quickly search over 50 acres before the suspect was located and highlights the great skills of the operators, excellent use of technology and the awesome teamwork between our emergency services," said Chief Chris Knoll in a release.
Investigation revealed that forced entry was made to several chip trucks, shortly before the original police interaction.
A 37-year-old Brockton man was held for a bail hearing and later remanded into custody, facing charges of theft under $5000, mischief under $5000, possession of break-in instruments and possession of property obtained by crime.
The second suspect remains outstanding; however, police say they have identified a man and are attempting to locate him.
