West Perth considering expanded naming rights at municipal facilities

The Municipality of West Perth is exploring the possibility of expanding sponsorship and naming rights opportunities across dozens of municipal facilities.

A review presented to council earlier this month identified 81 potential sponsorship and naming opportunities spread across 27 locations throughout the municipality.

The proposal could allow businesses and organizations to sponsor municipal spaces and facilities, creating additional revenue opportunities for West Perth.

According to the municipality's October 5 council highlights, "Council reviewed a proposed framework for sponsorship and naming opportunities at municipal facilities."

West Perth already offers various advertising and sponsorship arrangements at its recreation facilities, including naming rights for ice rinks, dressing rooms and meeting spaces.

However, councillors raised concerns about how an expanded program could affect existing relationships with community organizations and service clubs that have historically supported local facilities.

The municipality says, "Council discussed the importance of respecting existing community and service club relationships associated with local facilities."

Rather than approving the proposed framework, council decided additional work was needed before proceeding.

"The report was referred back to staff for further review before moving ahead," the municipality said.

No final decision has been made on which facilities could be included in an expanded sponsorship program or when the proposal might return to council.
