Runners raise $93K for Kincardine hospital

The inaugural Lighthouse to Lighthouse Half Marathon and 5K has been deemed an overwhelming success.

The charity run along the Lake Huron shoreline last Sunday drew 500 runners from across Ontario and raised $93,000 for the Kincardine Hospital expansion.

“Race day was magic," said Race Director Sarah Foster. "There were rainbows over the starting lines and cheering crowds along the routes and at the finish line. You could feel the pride in this community. Nearly 100 volunteers made this event possible, and our municipal partners in Kincardine and Huron-Kinloss were phenomenal — their staff went above and beyond to ensure a safe, seamless race.”

Of the funds raised, $26,200 came from a single team. Gurbin's Gang, led by Dr. Jason Murray, brought in the five-figure sum and received the inaugural fundraising cup.

The Lighthouse to Lighthouse Half Marathon and 5K was created by the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation, which is leading the charge to raise funds for the hospital expansion.

"Every runner, volunteer, sponsor, and supporter helped move us closer to bringing modern, accessible care to families across Bruce County. We are deeply grateful," said Foundation President Becky Fair.

The planned hospital expansion includes upgrades to the emergency department, medical imaging unit and laboratory, and Bruce County's first MRI.
