The Town of Minto hosted the first of what it hopes is an annual community food drive on October 3.
Volunteers of all ages, even as young as 10, gathered together in Harriston, Palmerston, and Clifford to collect donations for local food banks.
Erin Raftis, Marketing and Community Development Coordinator for the Town of Minto, says it was a depot and porch pick-up style drive, with volunteers collecting 56 boxes of food for the three food banks. Food that was collected will also be distributed to the community pantries, which are located in the three local library branches.
A total of $655 in monetary donations were also collected. Staff are hoping to make this an annual event, driven by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.
"We're extremely appreciative of all the donations and the volunteers. Without them, there would be no food drive. We had volunteers from all three communities from 10-years-old and up, and it was a really great day," said Gregg Furtney, CAO for the Town of Minto.
