A Huron County 4-H volunteer has been recognized with a provincial award for his work with local youth.
Connor Rodger of the Huron 4-H Association has been named the Region 5 recipient of the 2026 4-H Ontario Outstanding New Volunteer Award.
The award recognizes volunteers who have been involved with 4-H for less than five years and who demonstrate the values of the organization in their work with young people. One recipient is selected from each region of Ontario.
Rodger, a former 4-H member himself, became a volunteer in 2022 and has since taken on several roles with the Huron association, including beef club leader, board director, vice-president and judging competition chair.
4-H Ontario says Rodger has developed a reputation as a thoughtful leader who works to ensure young members feel included and encouraged to participate.
“Beyond this significant leadership role, he is a volunteer who can always be counted on to step in wherever help is needed,” said a Huron 4-H volunteer identified as Sarah. “His passion for agriculture, dedication to service, and commitment to developing future leaders make him an outstanding representative of the values and spirit of 4-H.”
A youth member of the organization also credited Rodger with helping build confidence through the program.
“Connor is kind, patient and encouraging. Because of Connor’s guidance, I have learned a lot, gained confidence, and enjoyed my 4-H experiences so far,” said Henry.
4-H Ontario says the Outstanding New Volunteer Award recipients are selected by a committee of previous winners. Identifying details are removed from nomination packages before they are reviewed, with nominees evaluated on their service, their demonstration of 4-H values and the breadth of their involvement.
Rodger was one of six volunteers recognized across Ontario this year.
