Wellington County OPP laid 30 speeding charges during a recent traffic safety blitz.
From Friday, September 25 to Monday, September 28, the OPP was performing a proactive traffic enforcement initiative within Wellington County focusing on speed enforcement. With 30 drivers being charged with speeding, police are reminding the public that speeding remains one of the leading contributing factors in fatal collisions on Ontario roads.
That is especially true as we transition into fall and winter weather. The OPP is asking drivers to be prepared for changing road conditions over the coming months, with some safety tips to keep in mind.
That includes checking your winter tires, properly prepping your vehicles for winter, meaning checks on your battery, windshield wipers, lights and fluid levels. Give yourself extra time for travel and maintain a safe follow distance behind other vehicles. Brake early and smoothly, watch for frost and black ice, and be mindful of your surroundings, especially in rural areas where horse and buggy traffic remains consistent.
