A curling competition held at the Plex in Port Elgin has been deemed a success after raising around $40,000 for charities.
The Battle was held over three days, ending on Sunday, and included an all-star cast.
Among the attractions was a unique curling camp that saw 80 curlers of all experience levels. They received on-ice and off-ice instruction from some of the top instructors in the country.
Olympic gold medalist Brad Jacobs and his team played against bronze Olympic medalist Rachel Homan and her team. Team Jacobs won the battle, winning a head-to-head game on Sunday afternoon.
The Paralympic Gold Medal Curling Team was also in attendance.
The event had over 3,100 attendees and is also expected to generate more than $1 million for local businesses, on top of the money raised for charities.
"We were hoping for $30,000 to $40,000, so we exceeded that thanks to the fans, sponsors, and teams. We will have more numbers after we all get some sleep," said Doug Flowers, Chair of the Steering Committee.
The money raised will be divided between the Sandra Schmirler Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Tire Jump Start, and the Special Olympics.
