West Perth is taking another step toward developing more than 100 acres of vacant land in Mitchell for future industrial use.
A public meeting is scheduled for September 8, 2026 on a zoning amendment covering two parcels at 5905 Frank Street.
The municipality wants to rezone the properties from agricultural and industrial lands with a holding provision to general industrial.
West Perth says the change is intended "to facilitate the future Heron Industrial Park."
The two parcels are about 25 acres and 82.5 acres in size, for a combined total of roughly 107.5 acres.
The zoning application follows years of planning for additional industrial development in southeast Mitchell.
West Perth began an environmental assessment process in 2017 to look at infrastructure needed to service lands designated for future industrial growth.
The preferred servicing plan includes new roads, water and sanitary sewer extensions, stormwater infrastructure and a new sewage pumping station and forcemain.
The environmental assessment says the project is intended to "promote additional industrial growth within the community of Mitchell."
The municipality is expected to initially fund the infrastructure through its capital program, with some of those costs eventually recovered through land sales, development charges and agreements with future property owners.
Additional environmental and regulatory approvals will still be required before construction can move ahead.
West Perth says members of the public may attend the September 8 meeting, submit written comments or participate remotely.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the West Perth Municipal Office in Mitchell.
