Grey Bruce OPP have introduced a new program to help children who are experiencing trauma during high stress situations that involve emergency responders.
The Comfort Companions program encourages local volunteers and crafters to make handmade plushies and blankets that can be given to kids during stressful situations that officers respond to.
Police say the gifts will not only provide a sense of comfort during difficult times for kids, it can give them reassurance, a sense of security and let them know their community cares.
To ensure all donated items are safe and suitable for children, police ask that items must be new and handmade and they must not contain small parts that could pose a choking hazard. Used or gently used items cannot be accepted and donated items should have no monetary value attached.
In addition to completed plushies and blankets, donations of new fabric and yarn are also welcome. All donations can be dropped off at any Grey Bruce OPP detachment.
