For generations, students across the Bluewater District School Board have made unforgettable memories at the Bluewater Outdoor Education Centre (BOEC).
Whether it was learning about wildlife, hiking through nature, or gathering around for shared meals after a busy day outdoors, the BOEC holds a special place in the hearts of thousands of local alumni and current campers alike.
Now, one of the facility's most-used spaces is getting a major upgrade. The Bluewater Education Foundation (BEF) has officially kicked off a significant kitchen renovation at the centre.
This transformation will turn the current setup into a super-functional commercial kitchen. Thanks to the community’s generous support during BEF’s 2026 capital campaign, visitors can look forward to sparkling new stainless-steel countertops, expanded dry storage, brand-new appliances, and plenty of space to fuel future generations of outdoor adventurers.
"This is a really exciting time," said Meagan Hayward, Coordinator of Strategic Initiatives. "The kitchen is one of the most heavily used spaces at the Centre, and this renovation will make a tremendous difference in how we are able to serve the people who come here to learn, explore, and build connections with nature."
Community members looking to lend a hand have two fantastic opportunities to get involved this September.
The Music Among Nature Concert takes place September 19, featuring an evening of live music, delicious food, vibrant community spirit, and the natural beauty of the BOEC. On the same night as the concert, BEF will draw the lucky winner of their bike raffle. One lucky supporter will walk away with a custom ride valued at approximately $600.
Concert tickets and bike raffle entries are available right now on the Bluewater Education Foundation Website.
