Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP announces new Student and Family Support Office for local school boards

Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Paul Vickers recently announced new Student and Family Support Offices for two local school boards.

According to a press release from Vickers' office on September 2, the Bluewater District School Board and Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board both have the new offices, aimed at "giving parents and families a clear, effective way to get help regarding their child’s education and find solutions faster," according to the release.

These new offices, which are part of the provincial government's expansion of the service to all 72 school boards, will "give families an additional way to get answers on broader community concerns, navigate complex issues and receive the information and support they need," when it comes to student success, Vickers added in the release.

Student and Family Support Offices review concerns raised by parents to help address matters that need to be escalated following initial engagement with a child’s teacher and principal.

"The addition of Student and Family Support Offices in our local schools will help in strengthening the connection between our schools and our families," said MPP Vickers. "It will help to ensure that every student and family feels heard and supported."

"Parents should have a clear and consistent way to raise concerns and get answers when it comes to their child’s education," stated Paul Calandra, Minister of Education. "We are strengthening accountability across our school boards and making sure families can get the support they need when they need it. Everything we are doing is focused on improving student achievement and ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed."
